Bernardel rosin is made in France using the first pine sap of the season, utilising the same manufacturing process used in Bernardel’s time. This low dust, all purpose rosin, suitable for violin, viola, or cello, is very popular with advanced students and professionals alike because of its precise attack and reliability in all kinds of weather.

Rosin is made from tree sap and creates friction between the strings and the bow. Rosin causes the bow hair to stick to the string and pull it, which in turn creates the sound. It’s a good idea to keep a spare rosin stashed away in case it is misplaced or dropped.

In his day Gustave Bernardel (1832 – 1904) was one of the best violin makers in Paris. Today, even if you have never seen his instruments, you know the name because of the rosin he developed, which is still sold in the classic blue pouch with the Bernardel seal.
